Music Interruption Due to Atmospheric River Storm

After a power outage due to Atmospheric River Storms in west and in California my music server was down for a while even after the power came back up. One of the power supplies in my C7000 chassis didn’t allow all of my blade servers to come up right away since it didn’t come online right away. The power supply finally cam up along with the music server on that blade. I’ll need to replace that power supply as that’s the second time this has happened in the recent storms. This also happened New Year’s Eve 2023.

Music Server Moved and Back Streaming

Music Server Moved and Back Streaming

I have the music server back up and racked in its new position and streaming music. I also performed some OS updates and moved another couple of servers as well. One of the other servers has the IceCast stream relays as well and some other functions.

Taking Music Server Down Temporarily For Move

Moving the music server down in the rack for better cooling so music stream will be down temporarily. In the mean time visit a few other places on my site like the “Da Hoytt’s Games Site” :http://dhoytt.com/da_hoytt_games_blog/”. You can even stream the music later when I have the music stream back up and rolling!

Fixed Song Requests at Snakeice’s House of Beats

Well after switching the backend server I also needed to fix “Song Requests” which I didn’t know was not working until I tried it remotely. So I thought I just had to allow the proper port to talk to the new server but of course it’s never that simple.

I had to add some systems to the white list for when they land on my site and make song requests. Well that didn’t do it either and everything looked great on the new server so then went down the line and finally saw a nice little entry in the system logs of my web server about Selinux. I did a test without Selinux involved and then the request of course went through so now made the appropriate edits into the all the systems as well as the router and requests are working just the way they are supposed to.

    New Music Server Switch Complete

Well I built up the new server moved over the database and pointed the configuration files and ports to the new server off of the evaluation server and the migration from old server is complete. I actually went from older server, then to evaluation server and now permanent server as of now. This is something I normally do every 2 or 3 years dependant on technology changes. I went a bit longer than normal this time so was really due for an update!

Basically I moved my SAM Broadcaster software off of an old ancient system running Xeon multi-core (not dual core) with W2003 to evaluation copy of W2012 R2 with dual Quad core Xeon CPUs server for testing then to w2012 R2 Essentials for my permanent solution also running dual Quad core Xeon CPUs with more memory on the music streaming side of the house. I continue to run my web servers with Fedora & Centos Linux flavors mostly in the virtual environment of XenServer with FreeNAS providing the storage. Now the evaluation music server which is identical will switch to music server backup.

What the new server provides is the ability to scale the way I want with double the encoders without impacting CPU or memory as on my older system. You will hear a much cleaner sound with less buffering. I also went back to using internal soundcards since the USB with 2012 r2 seemed a bit flaky but the side on this is it will also provide much better sound with the way I use SAM and better interface if I want to use items such as mikes or other inputs.

More updates coming soon on the web side of the house since the backend is stronger so stay tuned but in the mean time enjoy the updated sounds provided from my update of the music server!
