General Intrigue…

For a person that really tries to stay on the down low most times why does intrique, always find me? Then you have these Buster wannabees looking to do things and their life stays drab. I try for drab but get intrigue…..but I like the part about the ladies though, that’s the good stuff!
Maybe I will be more forthcoming with specifics later…but then again maybe not.

Blog Archives Now Displaying Correctly

First let me say that I had just taken my bed sheets out of the dryer, picked me a nice midnight drink, placed my current book I’m reading on the nightstand and was sleepily making my way to bed after doing some maintenance around the house……but just wanted to check my blogs I have not been doing on a regular basis lately….then found ….my archives aren’t showing!! What happened! I knew I couldn’t go to bed this early, something had to keep me up since I decided not to go clubbing!
Seems like when I was experimenting with “Dynamic Rebuild of Archives” I forgot to take the option off or follow through with the complete “Dynamic Rebuild” option!
I have been really busy with a lot of personal matters and far more important issues and haven’t been keeping tabs on my blog or website lately.
I finally went to the great Movabletype Support Forums http://www.movabletype.org/support/index.php?s=4b206edffa59c46feefe8e32ec3816f7 and found a relevant discussion thread. That got me back on track!
This is the general overview of what I ran into.
Clicked on an archive link on my “Main Blog” page and discovered that the link gave the “404” page not found error! Tried every other archive link I could and they all gave the same error…..eh! Now my mind is kinda peeking around the corner of the let’s not go to bed mode.
I had not been on my webserver for a while but it was still serving up my other pages just fine! Hell I don’t have many pages to serve why is it burping on my “blog archives!?
Tried the simple thing first created a new entry and figured it would rebuild and them all archives would come back, this didn’t happen.
Then I went on my Linux system that’s serving up my web pages and compared my archive files with the archive preferences in the Blog’s core config and that appeared correct. Did a rebuild of my templates and still the 404 error!
Did a rebuild of all Blog files still the 404 error?
I then looked at my starting index.html file for my blog and it looked to compare with my preferences I then went into my directory on my webserver that holds the archives and discovered that all of my archive files ended with “.static”!
I looked around the manual and FAQ’s for a while but I was really tired soooo… Time to hit up the Movabletype forum for some info! Then found a thread where someone else ran into this yesterday and it was pointed out that the underlying issue was that he switched to dynamic rebuilding for his templates. He went and completed the task of converting to dynamic rebuilds! I’m not as experienced in that and could not find the info but at least I knew what the issue was!
I also found another thread that stated that not many plug-INS were available for the dynamic rebuilding templates at this time so that made me feel more justified in reverting back.
So I switched back to “Build All Templates Statically” and rebuilt the site! Now all my archives are back! The only thing is when I looked in the archive directory it recreated all of the archive html files without the “.static” suffix but left the files with the “.static” suffix created with the ” Build Only Archive Templates Dynamically” option
You know what who cares if I have duplicated files but with different extensions in that directory? I have the drive space and the files are small. Heck it took me longer to write this entry so I can recall what I did, than to get a resolution to the issue! I’ll deal with it another time, I’m going to bed!!
I’ll keep my eye on my site a bit more even when I’m busy!!

New Main System Current Specs

Not top of the line but an improvement.
MB = Pt880Neo
CPU = Intel 3.2E
RAM = 1 GB – Kingston
Video = ATI-All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro
SCSI card1 – LSI SYM2910 dual Ultra SCSI 160
Drives: IBM DXHS36D,
IBM-PSG DRHS36D,
QUANTUM ATLAS IV 36 SCA
SEAGATE SX150176LC
SEAGATE SX446524
SCSI card2 – NCR W\53C896 Firmware
DLT 4000
HP SCANJET 4P
DVD/RW = EMPEREX 4x
DVDROM = GENERIC (forgot)
Power Supply = Vigor 500 500w
Case = EYE-2020XP, ATX Tower
I am eying moving over my Adaptec 29160 for the LSI or getting an Adaptec 39160 and some faster drives.
I now have enough space for a little while but will be updating again in the drive storage area again I’m sure.
Now contemplating what to do with my old system put it in my rack with my other systems or in another room to control multimedia functions and provide a TIVO type function.

New Intel 3.2gb System Almost Ready

I pretty much have my new system ready. I just need to get my 73 GB SCSI ultra 160 hard drive back from Seagate RMA. Was doing the delayed write thing and then would disappear from the OS and would not be seen on boot-up from the LSI SYM2910 dual Ultra SCSI 160 card I’m using.
I had to get the drivers for my All-In-Wonder X9800 128mb card straightened out because it was flaky with reboots occurring all the time with the Microsoft driver but once I installed ATI’s Catalyst drivers everything just went really smooth.
I got this 500 watt Vigor power supply with the blue lights that all those people who like to mod their system like. Looks pretty cool and I’ may do a little modding of my systems in the future but function first for me! Thing is I may need a 600 watt plus power supply for the amount of things I will have in this system.
This new system will be running the Intel 3.2 GHz E chip with 1mb of onboard level 2 cache. That’s almost as much as the Cache on my Xeon process in my multimedia (music) server.
Everything is going great this case I purchased earlier in the year has 2 12×12 cm fans (almost 5.25″). So the ventilation will be really nice plus I may modify things and place a third fan in the system even though my power supply provides really 2 additional fans. Since I run so many drives at one time I am considering this putting this extra fan in the system.
I think I will also get another Adaptec 39160 for this system and move the LSI to another system. Then I will take what is now my main system and keep the 29160 in that and build it into a rack enclosure or use it as a TV in one of my rooms since that system has an All-in-wonder Radeon in it. Would make a nice Tivo system! In fact I think I now have at least 6 and maybe more Ati-all-in-wonder cards of various models. I can do Tivo all over the house!
I really need to get this main system up though. The current configuration was supposed to be a temporary thing but it has stretched too long. I have to have a house fan blowing on this system constantly because it has 6 tightly packed ultra 160 SCSI hard drives running in it! The ventilation is horrible and I keep kicking the darned fan! Plus my C: which is only a 9gb but fast drive is too full to be able to accept all of the security updates the OS and various software packages run even though I have moved some programs to other drives.
Anyway this is what I have been doing lately late nights trying to see how to best leverage parts from one system to the next without spending too much money. Once this is all set I will do as I always do leave it alone except minor tweaks and enjoy the setup! I unfortunately let this go a little too long and needed more updating than I realized.
I still need more RAM and one more hard drive and to modify my music sever some more and update my Linux system get my HP-UX system updated, get space for my Solaris system, get my x86 Solaris system up again….oh well will update again much sooner than last time!
Oh yea and also have other projects and personal things going on!
Too much to do!… naaaaww I am just doing it!

Updates of Blogs & Systems

Concerning updates to the blog I may not do them everyday as I have been. I was doing the blog updates everyday because I wanted to see how the software was reacting.
I will also be updating my systems especially my main system that I use everyday. I will also increase the storage on my music server and move another disk over to my backup music server and take a disk from that system to add to storage on my main system.
I have not upgraded my main system in a long time. Besides updating the storage I will also be updating my All-In-Wonder 7200 AGP 32mb. I will move to the All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro AGP 128mb. I will also update motherboard and CPU but have not decided to what. Along with this I will be placing this system back in a larger case as I had before to adequately hold my 6 sca SCSI hard drives, Plextor SCSI CDROM, Plextor CDRW, DVD reader, DVDRW, Adaptec 29160, NCR SCSI, Creative Labs Audigy, and 100bt LAN. I will keep the DLT, scanner and printer external, of course.
I really need to do this since I need the speed to finish projects faster and need the storage for the same reason. The current case for my main system is smaller than I had before and I never intended to stick with it this long. The air flow because of the amount of hard drives I have is not sufficient. Currently I have my case open which has been the case with me for over a decade and a house fan blowing into the case to keep the temps down. With this new case I will be able to place several large computer fans directly into the problem areas inside of the case. I will also cut down on hard drives by getting a few larger sized hard drives. Since I always go for performance with near the latest SCSI hard drive technology this will be a cost.
Anyway I need to do this so I will not have this in the back of my mind and I can work my other projects without tip-toeing around my systems.
I always go for piece of mind first as that frees you to tackle other issues. I have quite a few and am about to start swinging at them like Barry Bonds selectively but efficiently.

12k Chevy’s Run

I ran in the 12k Chevy’s fun run today. I will try to get some pics from there on the site later. I had a decent run considering I had not been to steady with my workouts the past month and a half.

Chevy’s Fun Run Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning I’m going to run in the Chevy’s fun run. I will not do as well as I wanted since I had to cut my runs short and didn’t get enough in last month or this month. Oh well it’s the beginning of the fun run season where 10k’s & 5k’s are plentiful.
This year they have a new course for the 12k which I will be running. You can check the Chevy’s course and other items on these sites:
