Silly me I really thought that someone was outside taking pictures when it was a good old fashion lightning storm outside the windows and now the thunder is starting to boom as well!
I hope this blows over so that I can finish my yard tomorrow even though they predict rain tomorrow!
Another update really to come on the yard as I get it into shape but for tonight will look at the lightning & thunder storm hoping for a respite tomorrow!

Well I have several truckloads of compost rototilled into the soil for my vegetable gardens in the backyard. Placed some already nicely composed compost from the Horse Association off of Longview drive here in Sacramento along with compost from my normal outlet Longer’s landscape.
I had to really break up the roots from the raspberry and grape vines I let run wild last year that really compacted the clay soil in one garden. In the other garden I had to break up the roots from the neighbor’s trees and some mint plants roots that were running wild and deep.
After the initial rototilling to break up the soil I mixed in the two different types of compost and now the soil is very aerated and looking and feeling rich. I can’t wait to see what the results will be. I plan on placing some mulch on top of the soil this year too to slow water evaporation.
I also put back the initial placements of my drip system back in place and made some repairs for damaged attachments.

There were some system administration issues with some files on the web server filling up some partitions. I cleared up those issues and everything seems a bit better at this time. Bear with me as I am doing some major hardware upgrades behind the scenes that will make things ultimately perform better in the long run.
After those hardware updates I have slated some additional software/application updates as well as some settings and software to load web pages much faster and ever more updates!
I also had some issues with the music streaming that I have corrected but will find the root cause later. I recently updated the software so hopefully that did not have a hand in the issues.

I replaced a network switch in my environment in an attempt to narrow down some bandwidth issues and it now appears that my sites speeds have increased dramatically back to their original speeds. Further streamlining and improvements to come!

Well opened up the web server to pull out the dual NIC cards and they were the PCI-x interface not what I wanted to go with the dual NIC card I had pulled out of another system. The reason I want dual NIC cards is that I tend to build systems in twos and with identical hardware and I want identical NICs in my two new storage appliances I am building.

Taking down the dhoytt.com web site to remove some dual NIC’s (Network Interface Cards) that are not used but that I do need on another system I will be using for my storage network. Once I remove the NIC’s the site will be right back up quickly!

Well I’m back up and have the major components of my site back up and working after moving items around in my racks and making room for new servers and equipment. I still have quite a bit to do so over the next few days I may interrupt site operations from time to time.

The “dhoytt.com” site will be experiencing brief outages as equipment and servers are moved around tonight. I am moving new servers in place and moving switches, servers and furniture!

Seems like the Compaq UPS battery backup is just gone as it has fried the voltage regulator and that was the issue so I’m moving the systems over to the Liebert UPS I have had letting the batteries get charged properly.
I’ll resuce the batteries out of the Compaq UPS later. I’ll have “Da Hoytt’s Online Universe” up and running again shortly!

I will be taking down the systems to move them on the UPS battery backup systems that I placed updated new batteries in some time ago. I got so busy that I had overlooked placing the systems back on the UPS system after it was fully charged.
With the recent power outage the other day and the brief power spike this morning I looked over to see that my primary UPS system was up and running all green with no load begging to be put to use. I placed my monitoring system, backup web server/development system and the multiplayer system on as a test.
I also began testing out some of my other rack mount UPS battery backup systems that I will place replacement backup batteries in as needed. I may test the tower UPS battery backup systems I have as well.
Well in about 5 – 10 minutes I will be bringing down the environment and moving them on the primary UPS systems. This should not take long as I just need to plugin three PDU’s (power distribution units) into the back of the UPS after taking the systems down graefully.
