Music Server Moved and Back Streaming

Music Server Moved and Back Streaming

I have the music server back up and racked in its new position and streaming music. I also performed some OS updates and moved another couple of servers as well. One of the other servers has the IceCast stream relays as well and some other functions.

Taking Music Server Down Temporarily For Move

Moving the music server down in the rack for better cooling so music stream will be down temporarily. In the mean time visit a few other places on my site like the “Da Hoytt’s Games Site” :http://dhoytt.com/da_hoytt_games_blog/”. You can even stream the music later when I have the music stream back up and rolling!

Evaluating New Streaming Music Server Tonight\This Morning

Tonight I am evaluating a new music server I built. I have a new OS and new hardware with updated streaming application. There has been a little up and down with the music stream as I get everything configured but it’s looking very good!

I will end up having the equal amount of streams on Icecast as I have had for years on Shoutcast with identical bit rates.

This new setup will allow me to also use my NAS setup to manage my music better. There will be less buffering for listeners even with the amount of encoders I have running more than doubling the system is handling this increase with very little memory or CPU impact.

Stay tuned the backend is changing dramatically and I like to have that solid before making the website changes that will better reveal my backend updates for you to use.

First Troubleshooting Issue of 2014 Resolved

Well I tried to publish a blog post on this site about 45 minutes ago and was met with some strange errors about some of my code not being recognized. I had to shake the cozy feeling I had and get down to business and trace the issues. Turned out I had not copied over some of my old plug-in code to the new area of my site. Once I figured that out by playing with my other sites and comparing directories on my old saved directory and my new directory it was clear what the issue was. This is why I save off and archive my old directories on my new servers! Issue resolved time to resume sipping some smooth “Makers Mark” whisky listening to music enjoying a mellow night.

Music Server Power Supply Died Back In a Few

Well I knew there was some power issue but it only affected this system the other day but turns out the power supply was on it last legs and it went out. I had to get really creative to replace the power supply since it is non-standard and make modifications to the inner case and exterior case to get the new power supply in.

I actually had to go with a 1U power supply I was going  to use for another project that got held up. Using the 1U power supply caused further case modifications to my 2U case but I’m done now and will be back up in a few.

I decided to post this while it was powering down after testing the other power supply and installing updates!

Well all its time to upgrade the radio stream finally to
Shoutcast DNAS version 2. There are some advantages to moving to the Shoutcast
DNAS version 2 but the main one you will notice as listeners will be that
instead of pointing to a different port for different bit rates for my stream
you will point to just one port and then tell it what stream to listen for.

I have currently tested out the configuration already on my test server in
private mode and everything seems to be working just great as far as the
streaming goes. I now have to get the authorization key from Shoutcast to run
this new stream publicly and have it listed from my test server and then I will
be moving it to my live production server tonight. I will also have a few links
to update on my web site and then everything will be set.

To connect to the new stream the format will be the following:

    http://dhoytt.com:8000/32kbps

    http://dhoytt.com:8000/128kbps

    http://dhoytt.com:8000/160kbps

    http://dhoytt.com:8000/320kbps

I apologize for this brief interruption but I’ll be up and
    streaming again soon!
