Late nights aren&#8217;t always good when you<br \/>\nhave other things pending in the early morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">I&#8217;m posting because Autostatic (whoever<br \/>\nyou may be) posted a comment<br \/>\n\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhoytt.com\/mainblog\/archives\/2008\/05\/packagekit-new-default-manager.html#comments\">http:\/\/www.dhoytt.com\/mainblog\/archives\/2008\/05\/packagekit-new-default-manager.html#comments<\/a>\u201d<br \/>\nto my initial post about \u201cPirut\u201d being removed on how get the<br \/>\n\u201cPirut\u201d install bits and install Pirut of course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Link to Pirut FC9 :<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ia64.koji.fedoraproject.org\/packages\/pirut\/1.3.30\/2.fc9\/noarch\/pirut-1.3.30-2.fc9.noarch.rpm\">http:\/\/ia64.koji.fedoraproject.org\/packages\/pirut\/1.3.30\/2.fc9\/noarch\/pirut-1.3.30-2.fc9.noarch.rpm<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Well I installed Pirut from the link<br \/>\nposted and it is working just fine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\"><font size=\"4\"><b>Packagekit&#8217;s Flaky<br \/>\nOperation on New Fedora 9 Install <\/b><\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Since my initial post I had also<br \/>\ninstalled \u201cPirut\u201d on my backup web server because outside of<br \/>\n\u201cPackagekit&#8217;s\u201d lack of features I liked Fedora 9 and there was a<br \/>\nversion of a software package that came with Fedora 9 I really<br \/>\nwanted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">On this second install of Fedora 9<br \/>\nPackagekit exhibited behavior I did not see or could reproduce on my<br \/>\nfirst Fedora 9 install.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\tOn the second Fedora 9 install<br \/>\nPackagekit would show it had updates I would then go click on the<br \/>\nPackagekit icon on my toolbar and it would flash for a second and go<br \/>\naway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">I even ran the Packagekit debugger I<br \/>\ngot from \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/packagekit.org\/pk-bugs.html\">http:\/\/packagekit.org\/pk-bugs.html<\/a>\u201d<br \/>\nand looked in my log files every time this happened and I couldn&#8217;t<br \/>\nfind the reason why Packagekit would flash and go away without<br \/>\nletting me interface with the GUI.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">This behavior did not occur on my first<br \/>\nFedora 9 install and went away after a reboot on my second Fedora 9<br \/>\ninstall but after the initial usage after a reboot Packagekit would<br \/>\nonce again flash on the screen and not let me interact with it&#8217;s GUI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">I finally left Packagekit alone to deal<br \/>\nwith time sensitive non-computer issues. I was still deciding however<br \/>\nto possibly go back to Fedora 8 or hope someone came up with a nice<br \/>\nupdate of Packagekit or the Pirut Fedora 9 bits or start using the<br \/>\nFedora 8 Pirut bits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Thanks to the post by Autostatic<br \/>\npointing to the Fedora 9 bits I can patiently await the new<br \/>\nPackagekit when its fully functional<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"center\"><font size=\"4\"><b>Pirut on<br \/>\nFedora 9 <\/b><\/font>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"center\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"left\">Pirut<br \/>\nseems to be working fine in Fedora 9  so far. Pirut asks if you want<br \/>\nto install source channels for Fedora 8.92 (beta sources possibly)<br \/>\nbut I said no. Pirut works fine after that and of course you can edit<br \/>\nout any sources later in \u201cSoftware Package Manager\u201d. I have been<br \/>\nunable to get this version of Pirut \u201cSoftware Package Manager\u201d to<br \/>\nshow available software from the repositories though.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"left\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"center\"><font size=\"4\"><b>Synaptic<br \/>\nPackage Manager<\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"center\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\" align=\"left\"><font size=\"3\">\tWhile<br \/>\nlooking for Pirut\/Software Package Manager in the programs section I<br \/>\nfound \u201cSynaptic Package Manager\u201d!
