{"id":265,"date":"2010-04-29T02:48:14","date_gmt":"2010-04-29T02:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dhoytt.com\/mainblog\/2010\/04\/29\/vibram-running-update-natomas-mayday-run-may-2-2010-in-sacramento\/"},"modified":"2010-04-29T02:48:14","modified_gmt":"2010-04-29T02:48:14","slug":"vibram-running-update-natomas-mayday-run-may-2-2010-in-sacramento","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dhoytt.com\/mainblog\/2010\/04\/vibram-running-update-natomas-mayday-run-may-2-2010-in-sacramento\/","title":{"rendered":"Vibram Running Update &amp; Natomas Mayday Run May 2, 2010 in Sacramento"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><title><\/title><br \/>\n<!--\n@page { margin: 0.79in }\nP { margin-bottom: 0.08in }\nA:link { so-language: zxx }\n--><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Been falling behind in my posts about<br \/>\nrunning and Vibram five Finger KSO&#8217;s, and I&#8217;m here to report the runs<br \/>\nhave been going well even with my gardening and other home projects<br \/>\nand getting used to another schedule!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">I have been running intervals and as<br \/>\nstated earlier that put a new type of stress on the calves and I<br \/>\nthink I&#8217;m finally almost out of the discomfiture that caused mostly.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\tThe thing about it running shorter<br \/>\ninterval distances trying for speed really gets you up on your toes<br \/>\nand the balls of your feet more than the 5k&#8217;s &amp; 10k&#8217;s. Especially<br \/>\nonce you wind down to doing anything under 400 meters! Being on your<br \/>\ntoes and forefront of your feet really stretch calves and ligaments<br \/>\nin a way not used before in the typical running shoe circa now!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">I also strange enough noticed that with<br \/>\nthe VFF&#8217;s (Vibram Five Fingers) my toe nails are growing out! Let me<br \/>\nexplain.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">I was on the back end of doing the end<br \/>\nof my interval workouts a week or two ago and I noticed as I got up<br \/>\non my toes I felt a weird pulling sensation as my feet gripped the<br \/>\nground, my toe nails!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Before in umm &#8230; ahem what passes for<br \/>\nnormal <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Athletic_shoe\" title=\"Athletic shoe\" rel=\"wikipedia\">running shoes<\/a> my toe nails took a beating and rarely grew out<br \/>\nespecially the toes right next to my big toe which are the same<br \/>\nlength and maybe a tad longer than my big toe. In fact my toes right<br \/>\nnext to the big daddy toe always had crunched up bloody looking toe<br \/>\nnails that were about 1\/8<sup>th<\/sup> of an inch thick.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">This is the first time I could ever<br \/>\nrecall having intact regular sized toe nails that weren&#8217;t, half off<br \/>\nor mutant looking. Another unexpected benefit of running in VFF&#8217;s<br \/>\nbarefoot minimalist style!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">Next up is a 10k this coming Sunday at<br \/>\nthe first annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natomasmaydayrun.org\/\">Natomas Mayday <\/a>run here in Sacramento California<br \/>\nright here in my neighborhood utilizing part of my normal road<br \/>\ncourse.
